Gochang-gun intensively fosters a new source of income for subtropical crops 'Apple Mango.'

Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, announced on the 31st that it has decided to focus on fostering "Apple Mango" as a new subtropical high-income crop.
The Gochang-gun Agricultural Technology Center selected "Apple Mango" as a subtropical fruit suitable for the local agricultural environment. Apple Mango is known as a subtropical crop with relatively low labor and high income.
The county will invest 300 million won (318,830 U.S. dollars) this year to provide seedlings and thermal materials to farmers for supply of Apple Mango. It also provides 50 percent of subsidy to facilities, houses and heating facilities, which are essential for subtropical fruits.
On the 24th, the county signed an MOU with Allgorun Co.,Ltd. a domestic tropical fruit distributor, to secure a market.
Gochang-gun and Allgorun plan to select excellent farmers for local apple mango cultivation and introduce high-quality apple mango varieties through grafting support to contribute to local agriculture and economic development.
Hyun Hyun-yeol, director of the Gochang-gun Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We are pushing for an Apple Mango pilot project as an item that can quickly respond to increasing climate change and increase farmers' income."
