Choi Ik Joon, CEO of Allgorun Agricultural Corporation, emphasized the current realities and future direction of the domestic apple mango industry during an apple mango training session held on the 22nd at the Jangheung-gun Agricultural Technology Center in South Jeolla Province.

On the day, Choi delivered the message that although interest in apple mango cultivation has increased as the crop has gained recognition as a high-income option, expanding cultivation without a proper understanding of market structure clearly has its limitations.

He explained that while domestically produced apple mangoes are competing within the same distribution network as imported products, domestic supply remains insufficient, making it difficult to establish a stable sales structure through large-scale distribution channels at this stage. To resolve this issue, he stressed that regional-level organization and the formation of cooperatives are essential.

“Until now, cultivation has focused mainly on the Irwin variety and a limited number of Taiwanese varieties,” Choi said. “Going forward, it will be possible to achieve differentiation and premium pricing only by creating a diversified market through a broader range of apple mango varieties that consumers can truly perceive and appreciate.”

He also added, “Excessive facility investment from the outset is not necessarily the right answer,” noting that “a phased approach aligned with each farm’s conditions can, in fact, be a more stable and realistic strategy.”
