The training was conducted for members of the Jangheung Apple Mango Research Group as well as new farmers who have recently begun mango cultivation. The program was designed not only to cover apple mango cultivation techniques but also to provide a comprehensive understanding of the overall market structure and distribution environment.

The lecture was delivered by Choi Ik Joon, CEO of Allgorun, who focused on the current state of the domestic apple mango market, the competitive structure with imported products, and the directions farmers need to prepare for as the industry moves toward further industrialization.

In recent years, apple mangoes have gained attention as a high-income crop, leading to a rapid increase in farmers considering crop conversion. However, it was pointed out that domestically produced apple mangoes remain in an early-stage market, where supply volumes are insufficient to ensure stable delivery to department stores and large retail chains within an integrated distribution system that also includes imported products.

Accordingly, the need to build a stable production and distribution structure through regional-level cooperatives and organized groups—rather than expansion led by individual farms—was strongly emphasized.

In addition, given that domestic cultivation is currently concentrated on the Irwin variety and a limited number of Taiwanese varieties, the strategic introduction of a wider range of apple mango cultivars, including new varieties, was proposed to expand consumer choice and achieve product differentiation. Practical cultivation approaches were also introduced for farmers hesitant due to the burden of facility investment, including methods that utilize existing facilities or adopt a phased investment strategy.

An official from the Jangheung-gun Agricultural Technology Center commented, “This training went beyond cultivation techniques and served as an opportunity to understand the apple mango industry as a whole,” adding, “We will continue to provide practical education to support income diversification for local farmers.”
